IQOS – How Does It Work? Where Can You Find One?
Vaping does not seem to be a good substitute for smoking. Some people may find vaping too dissimilar to smoking. There is no way that vaping tastes like tobacco. There is no beginning or ending to vaping. For example, smokers may light a cigarette and then blow it out. But vaping allows you to continue the experience.
Tobacco companies have struggled to develop products that simulate smoking without causing the same harm as inhaling combusted nicotine. These products are often called heat-not-burning (HNB) tobacco products like terea.
IQOS is perhaps the most well-known. It is available in dozens of countries. It has been in use since 2014 and has succeeded in converting large amounts of smokers.
How Does IQOS Function?
IQOS or other HTPs use batteries to apply concentrated heat to a cigarette-like tube of tobacco. Vegetable glycerin is used to create visible vapor. It’s neither smoking nor vaping. According to supporters, it fills in the gap between both which makes it attractive for many smokers.
IQOS consists essentially of three pieces: a wallet charger, the device itself, HeatSticks, or HEETS, in some countries, which are mini-cigs. The sticks are made from a combination of tobacco, VG nicotine, and flavors. They simulate the sensation of smoking cigarettes.
The IQOS unit heats your tobacco to a controlled temperature. It vaporizes the tobacco, but it doesn’t combust. The result is very similar to the vapor produced by a portable vaporizer, such as a PAX or Firefly that uses conducted heat to extract its contents. However, VG can create more vapor than is possible with tobacco.
PMI calls the IQOS “holder”, and requires a 4-minute charge of the case between each usage. Once the device has been charged you need to insert a HeatStick and wait until it lights up and vibrates. The process must be repeated after 14 drags, or six minutes depending on when it starts. HTTP manufacturers claim that the nicotine hit from these devices is faster than vaping and tastes more like a cigarette.
The IQOS emits no side stream vapor like a traditional vaping device. The IQOS produces the only vapor when it is being inhaled. The HeatSticks taste like cigarettes and have a flavor that is very similar to smoking.
You must clean the IQOS holder after approximately 20 uses (or one pack of HeatSticks) to ensure that ceramic heating elements perform at their best. Both the battery and charger will eventually go out of power.
Who Is IQOS Useful For?
IQOS (and other HTTP products) are targeted at cigarette smokers. The HeatSticks have a flavor and a price, which is why the product was created for people who are used to purchasing and smoking cigarettes. The conventions and habits of smoking cigarettes define the IQOS Experience.

Vaping products can be separated from smoking, as opposed to IQOS. E-cigarettes do not taste like tobacco, even if they are “tobacco-flavored”. You can find e-liquid in any flavor. There are many types of vaping products. You can choose to smoke powerful, sub-ohm-powered clouds. Or you can stealth and produce virtually no visible vapor.
Vaping is not necessarily superior to using a heatless device like IQOS. It’s simply a completely different experience. We have known for years that there is a substantial portion of the smoker population who doesn’t like vaping. Whatever the reason, vapers don’t find the vaping experience appealing to them. Then heated tobacco products like IQOS may be right for you.
